Hungry Caterpillar turns into a butterfly

After reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carl, we made our own butterfly, like the beautiful one on the last page of the book. We used printmaking to color the butterfly's wings, we ran car's wheels through paint, bouncey balls, marbles, home-made stamps, and of course hand prints and (unplanned!) footprints! the kids loved getting messy and using their hands and feet in the paint. Joaquin said this was the best art project ever!

Rainbows

Today we started a week on color and rainbows.
We did the first stripe in our rainbow, with oil pastels, markers, glitter paint, feathers pompoms, a balloon, foam shapes, whatever we could find that was blue. i think we will do a new stripe each week, Mondays. It is a group project, well, for Joaquin and Atlas, Oliver works by their side on his own rainbow (trying to prevent tears and tantrums).

Rocket to the Moon

Tonight the boys had fun creating rockets. Take a peak inside and see the Star Wars action figure (their spaceman) getting ready for a flight to the moon!

Atlas has decided to use his as a toy

Starry Night

We talked about Van Gogh and Starry Night, then they did their own version of Starry Night, using crayons and blue watercolors.

Saturn

For this project we used old cds, Styrofoam balls, and paint. The boys had fun putting together and creating their own planets. Ollie was all about mixing and pouring the paint on his plate.

Pastel Planets

Atlas wanted to learn more about planets, so we did an outer space project with chalk pastels. The kids loved experimenting with the pastels.

Blue Flubber

First day of art! We made blue flubber today. Our recipe turned out thicker than I would have liked, more putty than slime, but still fun. Joaquin calls our flubber Squished Smurf, Atlas called it Fart Head.
